We are stating off the year excited about our community collaborations as they continue to grow stronger with some new ideas and plans for the year ahead.
Our partnership with the City of Bellingham has two exciting new updates:
1.Parkscriptions has been included in the drafted City of Bellingham’s Parks Recreation and Open Spaces Plan (PROplan)! You can find out more about the process, checkout the full document and when the draft will become finalized here
Here is a quick overview of our mention in the overall plan:
1.2 Principals, Goals, and Objectives
Goal 5: Develop innovative programs, services and strategies for expanding the system and improving accessibility.
M. Develop a partnership agreement with Recreation Northwest to integrate their Parkscriptions model into City recreational programs and curricula.
2. We are partnering with Bellingham Parks and Recreation for a new program, Stepping Out. Each Monday at 9am – 10am, a group departs from the Arne Hanna Aquatic Center and explores a nearby trail, Greenways path or park. Walks will gradually get longer (maximum 2.5 miles) and possibly gain a small amount of elevation by program’s end. The last session will be held on February 24th.
On Monday January 20th, the City of Bellingham Parks and Recreation had their biggest work party to date! The MLK Day Community Work Party brought together 500+ volunteers to Whatcom Falls Park – that means 500 people got outside and all participated in this Parkscriptions Certified event!! The city provided us with the below thank you image that highlights the appreciation of our community for coming out and making a difference.
