FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Elizabeth Nelson Joins Recreation Northwest as Parkscriptions Program Director

BELLINGHAM, WA., June 24th, 2019

Recreation Northwest is excited to welcome Elizabeth Nelson in the newly-created position of Parkscriptions Program Director. She is responsible for initiating and setting goals according to the strategic alignment of the program and organization.

Elizabeth comes to Recreation Northwest as a marketing strategist and program manager who works with nonprofits to help improve the lives of the people they serve and share the stories of these successes. After spending a decade in program management and marketing, Elizabeth has a unique perspective of both how to maintain a successful program and how to market its success to increase buy-in.

Before joining Recreation Northwest, Elizabeth was the Community Engagement Manager at Chuckanut Health Foundation. There she learned about the Parkscriptions program and it immediately sparked her interest. She joined the Parkscription Advisory Team in early 2017. Elizabeth holds a Bachelors of Science in Community Health from Western Washington University.

“I know that a healthy community exists only when it embodies healthy individuals, the two are not mutually exclusive. Science and research can help guide behavior change to create a healthy and holistic approach to happiness and life satisfaction. The Parkscription program encourages people to get outside in nature to improve their overall health.” explains Elizabeth Nelson, Parkscriptions Program Director.

Parkscriptions connects people with positive outdoor experiences for healthier lifestyles and improved mental and physical health. Local doctors and other health care providers – recognizing that time in nature has many proven health benefits- are partnering with Parkscriptions to prescribe time outdoors.  The goal is to get more people outside to create a Healthy Whatcom.

Recreation Northwest’s Board of Directors: Andrew Olive, President; Brian Roche, Immediate Past President; Kristi Kucera, Vice President; Linda Balfour, Treasurer; Krissy Moehl, Secretary; Nicki Moltumyr and Jack Pflueger
